Payment gateways in Jordan: what suits your store?
5 min read
Payment is not a technical detail, it is part of the buying decision. Many orders are lost at the final step because the customer did not find a method they trust. Here is how to think about it practically.
Cash on delivery: the baseline
Cash on delivery remains the most comfortable option for a wide group of customers in Jordan, especially when dealing with a new store for the first time. Offering it raises trust and increases orders.
But it has a cost: some orders get refused at the door. You reduce that by confirming the order with a call or WhatsApp message before shipping, and by writing accurate product descriptions so nobody is surprised.
Online card payment
Card payment works well for higher value orders, customers outside Amman, and digital products or bookings. It reduces fake orders because the customer has already paid.
- Suited to high value orders and subscriptions
- Fewer cancellations at the doorstep
- Requires a secure certificate and a clear, trustworthy checkout page
E-wallets and transfers
E-wallets are popular with younger customers and easy to use on a phone. Many small stores start with them alongside cash on delivery before enabling a full card gateway.
One practical tip
Do not show every option at once in a confusing list. Present two or three clearly, and state any delivery fees before the final payment page. Price surprises are the number one reason carts get abandoned.
